Federal Work Study awards are made to students based on demonstrated financial need, limited by the level of federal funds available to the University.
The Federal Work Study program (FWS) provides employment opportunities for students enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh at campus locations and at eligible non-profit agencies and organizations located in the Oakland area. Most employed students work between 10 and 20 hours per week during the school year.
Depending on the level of federal funding, limited summer employment under the FWS program may be available. Summer placements are limited to students who participated in the Work Study program during the immediately preceding academic year. The purpose of the FWS is to allow students to earn a portion of the funds they need to meet their educational expenses.
