Keeping track of the financial aid process can be a major task. Refer to the checklist that applies to you in order to make sure the application process goes smoothly!

Incoming Freshmen

  1. Apply to the University of Pittsburgh.
  2. Apply for a FSA ID for you and your parent(s) on the website for Federal Student Aid. The FSA ID will be your electronic signature for financial aid forms.
  3. File your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Be sure to list the University of Pittsburgh’s federal school code (008815) to send your FAFSA results to our office.
  4. Review your award notification from the University of Pittsburgh, which will inform you of your financial aid eligibility.
  5. If you wish to accept the Federal Direct Subsidized or Unsubsidized Loans, please complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) and Entrance Counseling. Let one of our Financial Aid Counselors walk you through completing the Master Promissory Note and the Entrance Counseling.
  6. Access your my.pitt.edu account to view any additional information we may request.
  7. If you are selected for verification, you may need to complete a Verification Worksheet and submit accompanying documentation to Pitt Financial Aid.
  8. Review your billing information through the Student Payment Center.

Continuing Students

  1. Locate your FSA ID for you and your parent(s) on the website for Federal Student Aid. The FSA ID will be your electronic signature for financial aid forms.

Transfer Students

  1. If you are out of high school and have more than 12 credits before enrolling to the University of Pittsburgh, you should look into the transfer application process.
  2. Locate your FSA ID for you and your parent(s) on the website for Federal Student Aid. The FSA ID will be your electronic signature for financial aid forms.
  3. Complete and submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) through their federal website for the upcoming school year. Be sure to list the University of Pittsburgh’s federal school code (008815) to send your FAFSA results to our office.

  5. If you received Federal Direct Loans from another school, please complete Exit Counseling for your old school and Entrance Counseling for the University of Pittsburgh through the Federal Direct Loan Program’s website.

Veterans
