Gaining cross-cultural exposure by living and studying in another country is given high priority at the University of Pittsburgh. When you travel and study in another country you can complement your major or minor coursework or simply deepen your appreciation of another culture.
Study abroad provides you a chance to explore first-hand the language, history, and people of another land and, in the process, gain a competitive edge in the marketplace. The Study Abroad Office facilitates over 100 experiences around the world each year that range in duration from just a few weeks to an entire academic year.
All regularly enrolled University of Pittsburgh sophomore, junior, and senior students in good academic standing are eligible to study abroad. Knowledge of a foreign language is not a requirement to study abroad, although students are encouraged to gain some knowledge of a foreign language before they depart for their program.
With prior approval and completion of the Study Abroad Agreement, the credits earned while overseas will count toward graduation. By studying abroad, students will fulfill two or even three foreign culture requirements. In addition, it is possible to fulfill major, related area, and general education requirements. By planning ahead and choosing an appropriate program, students should not have to delay graduation.
